5 tips for checking email while on vacation
‘Tis the season for breaking a little from work and fellowshipping with family and friends. While this is the goal for millions of professionals, it can be quite difficult to truly withdraw with the conveniences of email. In particular, you may feel obligated to check email. You want to make yourself available to colleagues in the event that a work “emergency” arises.
Fortunately, 11 members of the Young Entrepreneur Council, an elite group of the most promising young entrepreneurs, offered their suggestions on how to handle email while away from the office in a recent article:
- • Commit and communicate. Stick to your guns if you plan not to answer emails!
- • Delegate emails to a trusted co-worker.
- • Utilize out-of-office messages.
- • Check every morning when your vacation is the least busy.
- • Flag anything that requires a response so attention is only given to emails that are most urgent.
And most importantly, relax! Vacation is time to get away and not be bogged down by work!
