Three ways to easily increase your creativity
Do you ever wonder why some people are seemingly able to think outside of the box and come up with creative ideas? While there are certainly individual difference factors that may account for this, did you know that there are easy strategies that can get you on the innovative track?
Three simple ways of doing so include:
- Take multiple perspectives: We have the tendency to be biased in the perspectives that we take. Instead of always seeing issues through our point of view, consider taking the point of view of other stakeholders. Doing so allows you to get a more holistic understanding of an issue, and ultimately, come up with more creative ideas.
- Draw it out: Many times, drawing out an idea (e.g., using diagrams, graphs, and charts) can be just the spark we need for innovation.
- Create conflict: We are typically focused on resolving conflict and creating an environment of interpersonal harmony, though this may not be ideal for spurring creativity. Consider bringing together people who think differently than you do. Also, consider playing devil’s advocate, when appropriate. Doing so allows for the generation of new ideas.
