Improving you ethical leadership
Ethics is anything but black and white. Gray areas make up the overwhelming majority of ethical issues leaders face. Whether you like it or not, if you are a leader, you will face ethical issues. Below are two activities you can start practicing to improve your ethical leadership approach.
- Communicate ethical boundaries with your team. Successful leaders clarify expectations when delegating tasks. Set clear ethical expectation for your team to help them undoubtedly understand what is and is not acceptable.
- Share your own personal journey. We all struggle with ethical and moral issues. The next time you are working through an issue or just successfully navigated your way through a tough issue, share your experience with your team. Similar to a role play or case study, this experience can help your team develop and learn in the moment.
