How Millennials can achieve work-life balance

millennials

For younger generations, finding work-life balance can be difficult. There are so many opportunities for working remotely which can lead to the blur between work and life. Smartphones at work can also be distracting—leading to an imbalance between work and life. The Muse offered some invaluable tips for Millennials to help their work-life balance:

  • • Just Say “No” – Learn to step back from requests when you are stretched too thin. When looking at task, identify what needs to be adjusted or removed. When saying no, do so with confidence and gratitude. Doing so will encourage purposeful projects and realistic expectations.
  • • Stay in Flow – When at work, stay truly focused. In other words, be completely involved in work activity for its own sake. When away from work, unplug completely. Schedule activities that are enjoyable. These activities will help you to recharge so that upon returning to work, you will be more focused.
  • • Balance New and Old Friendships – Maintain older friendships and foster new ones. Having deep connections will guarantee that you meet high-achieving peers and make new professional contacts. Join groups with like-minded people, connect with mentors, and share your work and ideas with these individuals.
  • • Less Activity, More Achievement – Rather than focus on how much time is spent doing a task, focus on the outcome desired. This will encourage you to think creatively rather than robotically.
