Promoting from within
The best candidates for a position can be internal. However, these individuals are not always easy to identify. A recent Business.com article highlighted five tips for determining what internal employees you should be promoting.
- They proactively take responsibility. Employees that deserve promotions proactively ask for more responsibility. They volunteer to spearhead projects. They get the job done without making up excuses.
- They are solutions-oriented. Future leaders need to be able to brainstorm solutions when approaching problems.
- They are respected by coworkers. Future leaders should be both well-liked and respected. They should always be team-players.
- They support others. Those destined for future leadership positions help to grow and develop others. They should consistently provide feedback and coach employees.
- They handle stress well. Promotion-bound employees are able to handle ambiguity and stress in their current role.
