The best candidates for a position can be internal. However, these individuals are not always easy to identify. A recent Business.com article highlighted five tips for determining what internal employees you should be promoting.

  1. They proactively take responsibility. Employees that deserve promotions proactively ask for more responsibility. They volunteer to spearhead projects. They get the job done without making up excuses.
  2. They are solutions-oriented. Future leaders need to be able to brainstorm solutions when approaching problems.
  3. They are respected by coworkers. Future leaders should be both well-liked and respected. They should always be team-players.
  4. They support others. Those destined for future leadership positions help to grow and develop others. They should consistently provide feedback and coach employees.
  5. They handle stress well. Promotion-bound employees are able to handle ambiguity and stress in their current role.
