Eliminating the Presentation
LinkedIn CEO, Jeff Weiner, wrote about how LinkedIn has one simple rule to eliminate useless meetings: eliminate the presentation. Jeff explains that they have meeting attendees review materials before each meeting, and then hold the meetings as discussions rather than wasting time on repetitive presentations. He notes excellent productivity results for LinkedIn.
In addition to meeting only for discussion purposes, Jeff provides additional practices for running effective meetings. All six are great advice, and are items we try to remind ourselves of at CMA.
[note color=”#B6D6F0″]- Define the objective of the meeting.
- Identify who is driving.
- Take the time to define semantics (and first principles).
- Assign someone to take notes.
- Summarize key action items, deliverables, and points of accountability.
- Ask what you can do better.
In this article, Jeff expands on each of the items above and the idea of discussion-only meetings. He also gives tips on how to successfully implement them into your company.
