Morning habits that enhance productivity throughout the day

Mornings are important because they set the stage for the entire day. A recent LifeHack.org article highlighted morning habits that can increase productivity throughout the day.

  1. Fuel your body with an amazing breakfast. A healthy breakfast can help you feel energized. Eating one can set you up for success all day.
  2. Kickstart your day with a plan. Plan out your day by creating a tentative schedule with times blocked out to accomplish certain tasks.
  3. Eat the frog. Do not procrastinate the most difficult or overwhelming tasks. Rather, complete that dreaded task in the morning and get it out of the way. This will give you a sense of accomplishment, momentum, and confidence to complete other tasks.
  4. Try the Pomodoro technique. Pick a task you want to accomplish. Set a timer for 25 minutes. Work intently on that task until the timer goes off.
  5. Use Parkinson’s Law. According to Parkinson’s Law, you increase effort to complete a task when given less time to do it. Set deadlines for yourself to gets tasks done efficiently. When given limited time, you focus more on a task and increase productivity.
  6. Turn off distractions. Turn off distractions in the morning, such as social media, email, and voicemail. Instead, focus on goals and action items.
  7. Choose an accountability partner. Find someone who will hold you accountable with your morning routine. Set up times to check in with one another to ensure you are both accomplishing your daily and weekly goals.
  8. Spend time each day working on a big goal. Set aside time each morning to work on a big long-term goals. Taking little steps towards your long-term goal will increase your confidence for all of the small accomplishments.
